AYJA-AIHW Publications

AYJA has a standing MoU with AIHW for the management of the YJ NMDS and the delivery of a program of research for youth justice in Australia. The current Schedule of reporting of youth justice data for the period 2018-21 includes:

Youth Justice in Australia – The AIHW publish data from the YJ NMDS in the annual Youth Justice in Australia report. This release includes a report (approximately 50-60 pages), supplementary tables, and state and territory fact sheets.
Youth Detention Population in Australia – The AIHW publish the Youth Detention Population in Australia report annually. Work on this report includes the collection and analysis of aggregate detention data for the most recent financial year, provided by jurisdictions. This report is produced in AIHW bulletin format (maximum of 24 pages) and includes supplementary tables.
Young People Returning to Sentenced Youth Justice Supervision – The AIHW publish the Young People Returning to Sentenced Youth Justice Supervision report annually. This publication consists of a report and supplementary tables.
Young People Receiving Child Protection Services and Under Youth Justice Supervision – The AIHW publish the Young People Receiving Child Protection Services and Under Youth Justice Supervision report annually. This publication consists of a report and supplementary tables.

AIHW also releases reports outside of the MoU Schedule that have been developed using the YJ NMDS (with the permission of participating jurisdictions). Some of these have been included in the list below also as an FYI.
